Hanging out with friends tonight, we watched Army of Darkness - which I hadn't seen for years. After watching two seasons of Burn Notice (which costars Bruce Campbell) I was surprised by two things in Army of Darkness:

a) Man, Bruce Campbell was young.

b) Man, Bruce Campbell was hot.

What I want doesn't exist.

I find myself persistently wanting an ebook reader, for ebooks and comics and fanfic. Unfortunately, I don't know that what I want actually exists; I want something with a color screen for comics, but readable in daylight like e-paper-based e-book readers. Plus, I want it to be syncable with a Mac.

Also, I want a pony, and sparkles, and world peace.

I wouldn't get this from any other ... software.

So, I'm syncing my iPhone, and then I go to play some music. It automatically goes to my entire library - all 40,000 songs of it - and picks a random song to play.

Of all the songs it could pick, what do I hear?

"We're no strangers to love; you know the rules and so do I..."

Yes, I just got rickrolled by MY OWN GODDAMNED COMPUTER. What the hell.

So, last night Dan made me watch the E3 trailer for the upcoming Star Wars MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Holy shit.

Now I remember why I had been avoiding SWTOR stuff - because the agony of anticipation is far too great. This thing looks great; if the gameplay is half as much fun as I suspect it will be (and Bioware does know how to make a good game, gotta give 'em that), this thing is going to be awesome. I've just spent an hour poring over swtor.com, the game's website, and the OM NOM NOM factor has only increased.

I am seriously no good at waiting for things.

Edit: If you want to watch the cinematic trailer, you can see a smallish version at the SW:TOR site linked above, or you can download the gloriously big version from FileFront here.

Woot!

Facebook's now allowing you to claim real-name user accounts and thus I can now be found at http://www.facebook.com/eleanorholmes - which I feel is WELL PAST TIME. For a service predicated around using your real identity, this was insanely overdue.

My new MacBook arrived, hooray! I'm gradually getting it set up to working condition, although I'm having some issues getting the screen calibrated properly - I follow the instructions in the setup app, but it always turns out too blue. Hrm. Anyway; I'm very happy with it, and I shall love it and hug it and call it George.

Actually, it's currently called Luminara (after this lady), in keeping with my current Jedi computer naming scheme. (My other machines are Quinlan, Obi-Wan, and Holocron; my plethora of hard drives are named things like Aayla, Shaakti, Tholme and so on.) But I'm kind of bored with the Jedi naming scheme; I'd rename everything, but then I'd forget which disk was which, and where I should be looking for things.

Also, [info]cupiscent promised me an infinite cycle of icon glee, and Dee never lies! So.

Infinite Glee inside! Or something. )

Thing the first: Sims 3 has eaten my brain. Sim Eleanor lives a lifestyle remarkably similar to my own, and is blissfully happy. This should be a lesson to me!

Thing the second: I actually made some progress in tidying up my study tonight. This makes me very happy. :)

Thing the third: I am bored with my entire music library. Send help! Downloadable help would be even better, if you have anything to recommend or throw my way. ;-)

So, I finally worked out how to manage the whole journalling dilemma.

Normal, RL posts and linkage and stuff get posted to [info]ladyjestyr, as they've always been.

Fandom and fannish posts get posted to [info] - personaleleanorjane on Dreamwidth, and - this is the eureka bit - crossposted to my fandom LJ [info]eleanorjane with comments disabled.

That way I can still maintain a fannish identity over on LJ, and people who want to see my fandom content on LJ (if they don't have a reading list on DW, for instance) can just friend [info]eleanorjane and see updates that way.

Why did that take me six weeks to figure out?

...now I just have to get in the habit of commenting on fannish stuff on LJ as eleanorjane, not ladyjestyr - which would be a lot easier if LJ made it easier to switch between accounts on the fly, but sadly I don't see that happening any time soon.

This entry was originally posted at http://eleanorjane.dreamwidth.org/10453.html. Please comment there using OpenID.

Well, that's disappointing.

So, word has it that the original IP owners of Buffy the Vampire Slayer are looking to reboot the property with a darker tone, without Joss Whedon being involved.

This has the stink of failure. Existing Buffy fans are, I think, attached to the property because of Whedon and the way he handled it, and I can't imagine there's much of a market for Buffy outside of the existing fanbase.

I could be wrong - but I don't think so.

I saw a bit of discussion about this around the traps, so:

The NCIS spinoff series is confirmed for next season; it'll be called NCIS: Los Angeles. It stars Chris O'Donnell and LL Cool J, and is a continuation of the "Legend" two-parter near the end of NCIS season 6, which was its backdoor pilot. It'll air directly after the original NCIS series on Tuesday nights.

So, there y'go.

Thing the first: In the wild, crazy "I have time for anything!" depths of last night, I sent in an application for a Star Trek email sim (sims being, basically, play-by-email or play-by-forum freeform RP). I got an email from the admin of the sim I was apping for, telling me my application was excellent and offering me the Chief Science Officer position. (I was applying for the assistant CSO position, or just as a science officer in general.)

On the one hand, yay! On the other hand, uh, department heads have to post at least weekly (instead of biweekly for other players). Can I do weekly? I think I can, but I don't want to bite off more than I can chew. (Also, I would have to age the character up somewhat; I don't think many ensigns with 18 months of service under their belts would get a department head posting except in emergencies...)

Thing the second: My delicious account is TAGGED ALL WRONG and I have come to the conclusion that I have to rename ALL MY TAGS. Again. WTF, brain, stop doing this shit to me.

Thing the third: Star Trek tonight! Yaye!

Yum.

One of the few things I miss about regular visits to the US is the food; you can't get decent Mexican food in Australia (at least, not where I live) for love or money, and I love Mexican food.

So, after finally finding a supplier of the appropriate ingredients, tonight I made myself black bean burritos.

OMG SO GOOD. *licks fingers*

RPG recommendations requested!

So, [info]mimesere asked for recommendations for a fantasy RPG that was skill-based rather than level-based. (I'm assuming she's after historical fantasy rather than modern/future fantasy, mind you.) After briefly cudgelling my brain, all I could come up with was Exalted and Earthdawn (which is semi-level-based anyway) because I have teh dum today and cannot brane. Anyone else got any other/better suggestions? :)
